There are 5 things I look for when we book a hotel for a family vacation… convenience, check in/check out experience, cleanliness, customer reviews and comfort. If a hotel is able to give us those 5 C’s, they will definitely be C-ing us again. C what I did there?! Ok, enough of my cheesiness. Time to talk about our experience at TRYP by Wyndham Sebastian St. Augustine.
When we started planning our family Spring Break road trip, I knew that we had to stop in St. Augustine, FL. It’s the perfect mixture of history and fun and I couldn’t think of a better place to end our trip. I immediately reached out to Wyndham, who we had worked with recently in Orlando, FL and was ecstatic to hear from their Director of Sales, Samantha. Samantha was eager to work with us and wound up making our trip absolutely perfect by connecting us with the St. Augustine Visitors and Convention Bureau. Even before she knew whether or not we would be staying there, she wanted to make sure that we made the most out of our St. Augustine experience.
Before we book any hotel room, I like to read customer reviews. It’s true that people are more likely to complain than take the time to point out the positives, but I was impressed to find that TRYP averaged 4.5 out of 5 stars. The majority of the comments spoke about all of the things we look for and I was sold just based on reading a handful of those reviews.
When we arrived to TRYP by Wyndham Sebastian St. Augustine, we fell in love with the bright colored exterior. The colors give you a very beachy, Florida feel that made us feel at home instantly. I knew right away that we chose the right place to stay.
The hotel is conveniently located just minutes from downtown St. Augustine, where you can explore St. George Street with its unique shops and boutiques, enjoy live entertainment, and take in the vibrant sidewalk scene.
They also offer everyday conveniences including free parking, electric vehicle and Tesla charging stations and high-speed WiFi, as well as a sundry shop, dry cleaning, and an onsite restaurant. Everything we needed was right at our fingertips.
There are tons of restaurants, a Target and a grocery store just down the street, so we were able to stock up on some food for the room. Convenience and saving money is always a plus in my book.
Check In Experience.
After a very long 6 hour car ride, we entered the lobby of TRYP by Wyndham Sebastian St. Augustine and were immediately greeted by the sweetest front desk associate. I wish I would have gotten her name, but I was so exhausted, I only had unpacking and relaxing on my mind. She was able to check us in quickly and shared a few tips about the area. We were off to a great start.
I took a quick peek at the lobby and wanted to get the name of their decorator. The royal blue and aqua combo screamed beach! The furniture was fun and modern and so inviting. If we had more time, I could’ve seen us just relaxing on the couch or enjoying some coffee on their gorgeous royal blue chairs. I want those chairs for my living room!
Once we had our room key cards in hand, we headed over to our building to unpack the car. Parking was not an issue and we were able to get a rolling cart to help us carry all of the bags. Security is high on our list, as it is with most parents and I love that you have to have a keycard to enter the building.
Seeing how clean and beautiful the lobby was, I knew that we wouldn’t be disappointed with the room. Not only was the decor gorgeous and very cohesive with the beach theme, but everything was bright and beautiful! In all of the rooms we’ve ever stayed in, this was by far the largest for a standard room. Even with two beds, a mini-kitchen, a desk and a couch, Iyla still had plenty of room to do cartwheels (though I wouldn’t let her). We didn’t need any broken bones, you know what I mean?!
The beds were so comfortable. It was the first thing we checked out when we got into the room. We all fell asleep with no problem and had trouble waking up every morning because we just didn’t want to leave the beds. We had plenty of pillows and blankets and the housekeeping staff made sure we had enough towels, toiletries and coffee pods throughout our stay. Even with our “do not disturb” sign up, they still left us a bag filled with all of our necessities, right on the door.
Falynn even had her own special place to sleep. This fun, modern shaped couch was exactly her size. With a pillow, a sheet and a blanket, it turned into the perfect bed and she slept like a baby. With our family of 5, it usually means one child camps out on the floor and fortunately, we didn’t have to draw straws. Everyone slept comfortably at TRYP!
Each room has a microwave, mini-refrigerator, work space, ironing facilities, 42” flat-screen HDTV and a coffee and tea maker. We felt so at home, we decided to stay an extra night. There was nothing about our experience at TRYP by Wyndham Sebastian St. Augustine that could have been any better. Everything from the staff to the location was exactly what we needed to make our trip perfect.
Check Out Experience.
If I had to come up with any negatives about the hotel, I was slightly disappointed that they couldn’t extend our checkout time. The order confirmation said that check out was at 12pm but I called the front desk the morning we were leaving and was told that checkout was actually at 11am. Since we had scheduled a tour of the local chocolate factory at 9am, we had to rush back to pack and check out. While it was hectic, it did force my kids to help me pack which was nothing short of a miracle. Maybe I should try that next time… shhh!!!
I would like to thank TRYP by Wyndham Sebastian St. Augustine for their hospitality. I can’t wait to share more about our trip. Have you ever been to St. Augustine? Comment below and let us know!
