Happy National French Toast Day!
While I don’t know the origin of National French Toast Day, any day that requires that we cook and eat french toast is a good day for me.
In honor of National French Toast Day, I’m sharing my very special french toast recipe with all of you. This recipe is a favorite in my house and will definitely be a favorite in yours! Feel free to adjust the spices to your liking. We tend to sprinkle on a little extra cinnamon in our house. While any bread will work, we’ve found that a thick cut challah bread produces the yummiest results.
Famous French Toast
- 6 Thick Slices Challah Egg Bread
- 2 Eggs
- 2/3 Cup Milk
- 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp Ground Nutmeg
- 1 T Vanilla Extract
- Pinch of Salt
- Powdered Sugar (optional)
- Maple Syrup (optional)
- Butter or Oil
- Combine eggs, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and vanilla and beat until mixed well.
- Lightly oil or butter a skillet or griddle and heat to medium-high.
- Dunk each slice of bread in egg mixture, soaking both sides.
- Place in pan, sprinkle cinnamon (optional) and cook on both sides until golden.
- Top with fresh fruit, powdered sugar and/or maple syrup.
- Serve hot.
I’d like to thank FrenchToast.com for providing all of the ingredients! Last week, I received a box with a bowl, maple syrup, vanilla and cinnamon. How cool is that?! It was an awesome surprise and our bellies are grateful!
