Have you ever been to a restaurant, take one bite and wish you could eat every meal there for the rest of your life? Well, let me take you back to last month when we discovered the most delicious seafood restaurant in the history of ever… St. Augustine Seafood Company in St. Augustine, FL.
The minute we walked in, it was love at first sight. The restaurant is stunning… bright, white and decorated perfectly. Local images fill the walls and a huge board with the names of the boats that the seafood was caught on and the special of the day is displayed just before the counter. They partner with local fishermen and fish markets to provide the highest quality shrimp, fish and oysters direct from the boats. They only source sustainable, domestic seafood off the shores of the continental US – direct from local waters when available. You really get a sense of local pride as soon as you step foot inside. But it doesn’t stop there.
We were greeted by Angela, who was so friendly and extremely helpful, walking us through every single step to make sure we were satisfied with our first experience. St. Augustine Seafood Company offers a perfectly sized menu featuring seafood, sandwiches, salads and more. They offer an impressive 7 different sauces. I personally had the John-John sauce which was so good! You can get a different sauce each time for a slightly different experience.
You can choose to eat outside, in their courtyard (which is gorgeous) or inside. Either space is great. We actually tried both. They gave the girls these fun hats and handed them each an Etch-a-Sketch to keep them busy while they waited for their food. They have been begging us to buy them one ever since.
Kids Sized Meals.
The girls were able to get kids meals that include chicken, fish or shrimp, fries and a cup of fresh fruit. It’s the perfect amount of food for them. Kids are the best critics when it comes to food. They aren’t ashamed to tell you if they don’t like something. Mine didn’t have to say a word. In fact, they didn’t because they were too busy enjoying every bite. Not a crumb was left.
Fresh Catch Sandwich.
I ordered the fresh catch sandwich, took one bite of my fish and I swear I heard the heavens open. The fish batter was so crunchy and the fish was fresh and so delicious. Just below the fish, they place fresh blue corn tortilla chips and top it all off with their cilantro slaw. The bun is perfectly toasted and the combination is just incredible. I will never be able to eat another fish sandwich anywhere else because it would never compare to this one. I couldn’t stop talking about it for days.
The one item that really caught my eye was their chowder fries, a combination of our oldest daughter’s three favorite things… French fries smothered in clam chowder & bacon. She devoured them within minutes and wasn’t at all sad that my husband and I don’t eat meat anymore, because that meant she didn’t have to share. I’m not sure who came up with that combination, but they deserve some sort of award.
Fish and Chips Burrito.
My husband went with the fish and chips burrito. Fried fish, fries, cilantro slaw and John-John sauce – all wrapped in a warm tortilla. And yes, it was as good as it sounds and looks. The fish was fresh and the batter was crispy, though you can order it blackened or grilled as well.
Donations and Drinks.
Finally, we were told that we had to try their famous lighthouse lemonade. AMAZING. The girls couldn’t get enough. They actually contribute $1 from every Lighthouse Lemonade they sell to the maritime research efforts of the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum.
If you’re looking for something for the adults, they also have a bar & lounge next door that serves cold beer, cocktails and fresh seafood. You can also listen to live music at their Colonial Oak Music Park.
We loved our experience at St. Augustine Seafood Company so much, we went back for a 2nd lunch the day we left St. Augustine. We were again greeted by Angela who remembered our entire order from two days before. I had to go to their site and grab this picture of her. She was awesome and clearly loves what she does. It’s so refreshing to find a restaurant where the service is just as great as the food.
Sadly, we live too far to visit St. Augustine Seafood Company on a regular basis, otherwise we would be there at least once a week. St. Augustine is such a great city and we can’t wait to go back. In fact, we’re already planning our next trip. You better believe we’ll be making at least one appearance at this restaurant. If you’re ever in the area, please make sure to stop by for a bite!
