It’s back to school time! This year, we did things a little bit differently. Since the girls are getting older and they have different tastes, I allowed them to choose their own school supplies. It was fun to watch them select the things they love. They really had a blast. While they chose some different items, I found that when it comes to selecting their back to school goodies, the girls have 5 very specific must-haves!
Back to School Must Have #1: Color
My girls love bright, bold colors. So when they are searching for back to school must haves, they tend to go for the brightest, most colorful prints. Lucia is a fan of mermaid colors: teal, purple and aqua. Iyla loves rainbows so give her all the bright colors! Falynn’s favorites are blues and greens.
Back to School Must Have #2: Functionality
I loved transformers when I was a little kid so it’s no big surprise that my kids love things that transform! If something has multiple purposes, they have to have it! They love to figure out how to flip it to make it into something totally different. I love that we only have to buy one thing that has multiple purposes. Hurray for saving money!

Back to School Must Have #3: Fun
If it’s not fun, what’s the point, right?! Everything they get has to have some sort of fun element involved. Whether it can be colored in, has something to attach or a place to add their fun touch to it, they love it all. Even if it doesn’t offer the ability to customize it, often my girls will find a way to do it themselves with markers, paint or stickers.

Back to School Must Have #4: Durability
Surprisingly, my kids care about quality. They can tell if something is flimsy and will break on them quickly. Maybe it’s because they know that I’m not going to keep replacing things as they break, or maybe I’ve just taught them that quality matters. Either way, I’m proud that they watch out for durability!

Back to School Must Have #5: Price
When I asked my oldest what was most important, I was so proud of her when she said “price”. I guess I’ve been doing my job! I’ve always tried to teach the girls how to shop smart but when they have free reign to buy what they wanted, I didn’t put a limit on price this year. Surprisingly, they made the right decisions on their own, by comparing quantity and price on various items. This deal loving Mama is so proud!
Overall, they did an incredible job and got everything they needed for the year in just two places!

It looks like you girls got everything you need and then some! These are some cute backpacks too!
I love the colors and the fun for sure! I agree the back to school items need to be durable because you do not want to have to replace in a couple weeks.
I love everything they picked out as I like the color as well and would love to have the backpack and the other bag they purchased. As for the store I haven’t heard of it so I can’t wait to check it out for items for my nieces.
Wow these are great. I wish they had items like this when I was in school. So colorful and it’s nice that your kids got to pick out their own items. It’s more likely they will take care of their things in the long term because they have some sort of attachment to it.
Look at their happy faces. Such great finds … love the bright colors and the functionality.

Durability is always at the top of my list. I will pay more if it means it will last them the entire year.
It seems like they had a good time picking school supplies, I don’t have any kids myself, but if I did those back packs would be at the top of the list.
