In the days where technology has basically taken over, we often forget how important it is to spend quality time with our kids. We only get 18 years with them before they’re adults and it’s important to make the most of that time. The key to successful child/parent bonding activities in our home? Plenty of snacks… especially Snyder’s of Hanover® Pretzels and Cape Cod® Chips because those are their favorites!

Shopping

I get my quality time in with our teenager, Lucia, every time I ask her to go shopping with me. One of her favorite stores is Walmart. She loves to visit every aisle and look for deals, especially in the snack aisle. She’s definitely my girl! Starting May 20th, Walmart shoppers can buy $15 worth of participating Cape Cod®, Kettle®, Late July®, Snack Factory®, and Snyder’s of Hanover® products between May 20, 2019 – June 30, 2019 in one transaction and get a $5 Walmart eGift Card. Lucia especially loves those deals because I allow her to redeem that $5 card on something she wants (and at Walmart, there are so many options at or near that price point).

Backyard Camping

With our Snyder’s Lance snacks in hand, it’s Super Dad’s turn for a little one-on-one time. Recently, he pitched a tent in our backyard for a camp out! I loved seeing how much they can learn about each other when there are no screens involved. And although they often disagree, as teenage girls and Dads do, they have so much in common. Snacks, for one.

Find Fun Activities

You’d be surprised just how much fun you can have in your own backyard when you think outside the box. Super Dad and Lucia can always find ways to have fun together. Whether its wheelbarrow races, the seesaw that is clearly too small for them, making s’mores by the fire pit, or talking about life in the treehouse, they are able to have fun together with the most simple of tools. These childhood memories will be something that Lucia will always remember. And that, for us, is the key to a successful bonding moment.

When you’re planning your next bonding experience, make sure you’ve stocked up on their favorite snacks. In fact, you may want to head to Walmart now, buy $15 worth of participating Cape Cod®, Kettle®, Late July®, Snack Factory®, and Snyder’s of Hanover® products between May 20, 2019 – June 30, 2019 in one transaction, and get that $5 Walmart eGift Card. Snap a picture of your receipt, ensuring all the items are in view, and email the photo to snackon@uploadreceipt.com by July 13. Once your purchase have been validated, you will receive a code. You can redeem that code at summersnacking.com by July 27 to receive a $5 Walmart eGift Card. You can use it in-store or online for something to make your day even more fun!

Hello There!

Hi! I’m Heather, Mom of 3, professional snack opener, the only person who knows where everything is in my house and part-time magician (I can turn a bunch of candy into a gift basket and everyone thinks it’s amazing). I share a mix of parenting moments, easy recipes, crafts, and DIY home decor projects.

Around here, we love turning ordinary stuff into extraordinary gifts, from candy box baskets and birthday punch boards to homemade advent calendars and other crafty chaos that somehow always works out.

Welcome to The Super Mom Life — where the projects are fun, the coffee is strong, and the laughter is pretty much required for survival. Don't forget to follow us on social media!

  • Those are great ways to bond as a family and become closer. Having fun with backyard camping is such a great idea.

  • Pitching a tent in the backyard is always a fun activity to do with the kids. Add in some snacks and you’re off to a good time!

  • another activity is just arts and crafts for someone else. i tried bonding with a kid at camp, and the way we bonded was making things for family back home – portraits, cards, etc.

  • When our kids were younger, they always enjoyed doing anything with us. Once they became teens it was a bit tougher to find activities we all liked. Games and food worked for us at any age. I love pretzels and Snyders is my favorite brand.

  • When my kids were young, we built “castles” in the living room out of old boxes, we played outside with the sprinkler, and we made silly shaped pancakes. It was so much fun and we did not spend money to build beautiful memories like that.

  • Finding a fun activity that interest you both is always a great idea. We love watching movies and munching on something while doing so. Those Cape Cod chips are good. My son likes them a lot.

  • These just goes to prove that we don’t have to spend so much to have some fun with the family. With a little creativity, we can come up with lots of bonding ideas! Backyard camping looks like something we can do.
