In 2016, I had a fire lit under me. I remember being so passionate about doing my part in the fight against racism. I thought I was saying and doing all of the right things to get through to others. But then I replied to someone’s “Black lives matter” quote with “All lives matter, stop dividing us (something along those lines).” And people started replying to me in the most negative way. ⁣
⁣
I was honestly so confused. Didn’t they know I was on their side? ⁣
⁣
So instead of continuing to try to prove my point, I reached out to a friend from high school and asked her if she would explain what I had done wrong. And even though she didn’t have to, she did. And I understood immediately why what I said was absolutely the wrong thing to say. Thank you, Kendra!⁣
⁣
If you are using the term “all lives matter” in response to anything that is going on in our country right now, I implore you to research why it’s wrong. There are a number of articles and graphics out there that explain it brilliantly. One being the picture of two houses, one on fire and one perfectly fine. But a person is spraying water on the house that isn’t burning down, while saying “all houses matter”. Of course they do, but right now, we need to focus and save the one that is burning down. ⁣
⁣
For a lot of us, this is new and as we continue to fight, we will make mistakes, as I did years ago. But as long as we are learning from those mistakes, and growing as people, it’s ok! Recognize where you’ve gone wrong. Learn why. Continue to educate others. We are stronger together. ⁣

In 2016, I had a...

Yesterday, I read. ⁣
I watched. ⁣
I listened. ⁣
I shared. ⁣
⁣
And even if every single other person in this country did the same thing on #blackouttuesday, it didn’t magically change the lives of black people overnight. It was only 24 hours. That shouldn’t surprise you. ⁣
⁣
We still have work to do. ⁣
⁣
We need to continue to read, continue to watch, continue to listen, continue to share... Continue to teach our kids and have the uncomfortable conversations with those around us that still don’t understand that this isn’t about all lives. This is about black lives. This isn’t about not being a racist. This is about anti-racism. ⁣
⁣
Continuing to educate ourselves and others so that things will change speaks louder than any black box ever will. ⁣
⁣
Will you stay silent or will you arm yourself with the knowledge you need to fight? ⁣
⁣
Art by my 14 year old daughter, Lucia, who has been more vocal about this situation than many adults. ⁣

Yesterday, I read. ⁣ I...

Like most of you, I watched George Floyd fight for his last breath on national TV, by someone whose job it was to protect people. It sickened me.⁣
⁣
I’ve struggled to find the words to express how I was feeling. In all honesty, I was afraid to speak about it in fear that I would say the wrong thing or my thoughts would be misinterpreted.⁣
⁣
But staying silent can be misinterpreted too.⁣
⁣
Yesterday morning I watched an IGTV video by @cut and I knew I couldn’t stay silent any longer.⁣
⁣
I am a white woman. I will NEVER know what it’s like to be a person of color. I will never be pulled over because of the color of my skin. I have never been afraid of the police. And knowing that so many, at a young age are taught to act a certain way around a police officer, in fear that they may be arrested or worse, killed, for absolutely no reason at all, breaks my heart.⁣
⁣
But this isn’t about me or my feelings.⁣
⁣
This is about the senseless killings that continue happening. It’s about the injustice that people of color face. It’s about so many families that have lost loved ones. It’s about all of the beautiful black children and their parents and grandparents and extended family, that are afraid of what could happen to them because of the color of their skin.⁣
⁣
Imagine leaving your home every day and wondering if you’ll ever return. No one should ever have to feel that way.⁣
⁣
It’s time we stopped the silence and did something about it. It’s time we focus on change and how we can do better. I’m sharing ways we can make a change on the blog today and I’ve included the link in my bio. ⁣

Best part about having a teenage daughter? We can enjoy Lifetime Original Movies together! [ad] I'm so excited for this weekend's movie marathon! @LifetimeTV has always been one of my favorites and just like me, this year they are celebrating 30 incredible years (wink, wink)! ⁣
⁣
Lucia and I are ready for a weekend of movies, popcorn and LOTS of commentary. Somehow, even if it's a drama or a thriller, we find ourselves laughing. She definitely shares my crazy sense of humor. ⁣
⁣
Today we are planning on watching Death of a Cheerleader at 11am EST and Flowers in the Attic at 4pm EST and tomorrow, Beaches at 12pm EST. ⁣
⁣
The marathon begins today at 11am EST and ends Sunday night.. so grab your popcorn and tune in with us. Don't forget to check out our stories where we'll be sharing what it's like to watch a movie with us (almost as entertaining as the movies themselves). #LifetimeLoyals #LifetimeTV #LOM30 ⁣

I don’t know who needs to hear this right now, but this is only temporary. ⁣
⁣
I’ve said it to myself a million times since I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder. And now, during this pandemic, it’s something we all have to focus on. ⁣
⁣
We won’t always be locked in our homes. We won’t always have to wear a mask in public. Our kids won’t always be schooled online. We won’t always be out of work. Because just like anxiety, this pandemic is only temporary. ⁣
⁣
Enjoy your family. Cherish every moment you are being “forced” to spend with them. Your kids are growing up and they won’t always be little. Having them at home with you is just as temporary. ⁣
⁣
Today on the blog, our friend Alison @theanxietyhealer is sharing her personal struggle and how she’s coping with anxiety during a pandemic. She’s also included her favorite affirmations for you. Link is in my bio (or swipe up in stories). ⁣

Today is #nationalbrisketday so obviously I have to share my go-to slow cooker BBQ brisket recipe. It’s probably one of the easiest recipes you’ll ever make. It tastes like you spent hours in the kitchen cooking it, though it takes just minutes to prep. Best part is, you can make this recipe with any cut of beef! Serve on a plate with your favorite sides or on a roll for a delicious sandwich. Your family will love it!⁣

Back in January, we visited @legolandflorida for the first time. One of the highlights of that trip, was discovering Granny's Apple Fries. We've been pretty obsessed with them since the first bite and wanted to try to recreate them at home.⁣
⁣
I researched, I googled, I tried two different recipes that I found online that claimed to be Legoland Granny apple fries copycat recipes. And they were both huge failures. ⁣
⁣
After a whole lot of brainstorming and trial and error, we fell back on something that seems to save the day for us on a regular basis... funnel cake batter. ⁣
⁣
We dipped our apple sticks in the batter, fried and tossed in a cinnamon sugar mix. OMG... HEAVEN.  Cinnamon sugar apple fries are EVERY 👏🏻 THING 👏🏻 and I’m sharing the recipe today on the blog (click on the link in our bio or swipe up in stories). ⁣
⁣
Would you dip them with caramel, whipped cream or both?⁣
