A couple of years ago, I created a Hanukkah treat calendar out of a shoe organizer and it got such positive feedback. Recently, I got an email asking if I had any ideas for those who celebrate Hanukkah but want to give a small treat like candy, each day. I immediately sat down and came up with two ideas, and this was my first. This easy Hanukkah advent calendar is super easy and inexpensive to make.

Growing up Jewish, I never had an advent calendar. It wasn’t until I had kids of my own that I found that it was a fun tradition. So every year, on Christmas, I buy each of my daughters their advent calendar from the store and also fill each of their DIY Christmas Advent Calendar.

In 2022, I created the Hanukkah treat calendar and we’ve been using it ever since. My daughter opens one, each morning during the eight nights of Hanukkah. I typically fill it with a toy, candy, or clothing item that is Hanukkah-related. While fun, this can get expensive.

So this year, we are adding a smaller option. The best thing about these Hanukkah advent ideas is that they are all reusable. At the end of every year, just pack them up with your other Hanukkah decor. All you’ll need to do next year is fill it with goodies for your kids.

Supplies You’ll Need for the Easy Hanukkah Advent Calendar

  • 8 small bags with handles
  • Close pins
  • Rope or ribbon
  • Number stickers or marker

I found the bags, rope and numbers at Joann and the close pins on Amazon. If you don’t want to purchase the number stickers, you can also just write the number on the bag with a marker.

How to create this DIY Hanukkah treat calendar:

Step 1: Place numbers 1-8 on each of the eight bags. Alternatively, write the numbers 1-8 on each bag.

Step 2: Fill each of your bags with your Hanukkah treats. You can use dreidels, candy, gelt, or anything else you’d like to fill it with.

Step 3: Hammer 2 nails into the wall and tie your rope/ribbon to each side.

Step 4: Using a close pin, hang up each bag in order from 1 to 8.

**If you have more than one child, you can add one treat per kid into the same Hanukkah Advent Calendar, or you can make one for each of them and hang them in different parts of your home.
