Summer camp… a time for fun, friends and non-stop laughter. I love everything about it, but most of all, I love that it’s happening outside of my home, all three of my kids are there and I have 8 solid hours of quiet in my home, five times a week.  So what’s a Mom to do with an empty house? This Summer, I’m dedicating an hour (or two) of each day to me. I’m getting my relaxation on. Here’s how I’ve been spending my days when the kids are away.

SHOPPING

I headed to my local Walmart store ALL ALONE.  Ahh… no wrangling kids, no “buy me this, buy me this”, just me, my shopping cart and a store I can get lost in.  It was paradise. I was able to look at whatever I wanted. I walked up and down the aisles and discovered new products like Canada Dry Ginger Ale and Lemonade™.  My two favorite drinks together, in one bottle. It combines Ginger Ale made from real ginger with lemonade made with real juice. I couldn’t help but imagine myself sitting by the pool, with a cool glass of Canada Dry Ginger Ale and Lemonade, relaxing.  So I grabbed two bottles and headed home.

READING

I’ve always loved books but on most days, I don’t have the time to read.  My unread book collection had been piling up. So I finally pulled one off of the shelf, dusted it off and read over 100 pages. It was heavenly.  No one was asking me for juice, or whining in the background. Just me, the chirping birds, my book and my Canada Dry Ginger Ale and Lemonade in hand.   I have to say, it does taste just as good as it sounds.  It’s so refreshing and crisp. It’s the perfect way to unwind.

RELAXING BY THE POOL

I found a new favorite place to sit this Summer… by the pool.  The Summer days are so hot and it gives me the opportunity to soak up some Vitamin D and then cool off with a swim.  It’s the perfect place to read, take a nap and enjoy every minute of “me time” that I’ve been given this Summer. With my book and my favorite snack and drink nearby, I have everything I need.   It’s been easy to get lost in the silence.

I’m enjoying every minute of Summer so far and I hope you are too. Make sure to relax and make time for yourself.  You deserve it!
