I am incredibly excited to share this Dollar Tree Halloween craft with you for several reasons. They are super easy to make, budget-friendly, require only four supplies, and the most remarkable part? This genius Halloween mini bucket lights idea was my 9-year-old daughter’s idea! We saw the mini buckets while we were shopping around for ideas, and my daughter thought it would be great to light them up and set them up as part of our window decor.

Since they are plastic, we knew we couldn’t put traditional candles inside. At first, we thought about buying tiny string lights, but then we saw packages of LED votive candles and knew they were the perfect size for our Halloween mini bucket lights.

We tried them out as soon as we got home, and while they looked adorable, my husband thought it was necessary to cover the tops of the mini buckets so that you couldn’t see the switch. He was right (someone mark that down because I don’t say it as much as I should).

I went on a mission to find mini-top hats, but Dollar Tree didn’t have any. I was going to try to make some out of felt, but honestly, this is supposed to be a quick and easy project that your kids can also help with, so we kept looking for something already made.

After visiting two different Dollar Tree locations, I was excited to find a package of three witch hat picks. They were perfect, aside from the sticks that were glued to him. All I had to do was remove the sticks, and we had three perfectly sized witch hats that covered the top of the mini buckets and hid the LED votive candles.

Supplies You’ll Need for the Halloween mini bucket lights

• mini buckets
• witch hat picks
• LED votive candles
• craft glue

We picked up the three main supplies for these Halloween mini bucket lights at Dollar Tree. The mini buckets come in a pack of 4 for $1.25. The witch hat picks come in a pack of 3 for $1.25. The LED votive candles come in a pack of 2 for $1.25. You can make a dozen Halloween bucket lights for $16.25 (or $1.35 each). So pick up three packages of mini buckets (they come in skulls or pumpkin), four packages of witch hat picks, and six packages of LED votive candles.

I used the craft glue I had at home. You can probably pick this up at Dollar Tree if you don’t have any.

These Halloween mini bucket lights can be used as Halloween decor anywhere in your home. You can put them in the front window so the trick-or-treaters can see them. You can use them as dining room table centerpieces. They would look great on a shelf, in the kid’s rooms, or on the counter. The possibilities are endless.

How to create these Halloween bucket lights

Step 1: Insert the LED votive candles upside down into each mini bucket. The bottom of the LED votive candles should be level with the top of the bucket, and you should be able to see the switch. Make sure the switch is at the back of the mini bucket.

Step 2: Remove the sticks from each witch hat pick. Add glue to the front 3/4 of the top rim of the mini bucket. You’ll want to leave open a small area in the back where the switch is so that you can stick your finger under the hat to turn the candles on and off as needed.

Step 3: Press one of the witch hats to the top of the bucket where you added the glue and secure. Switch on the LED votive candle light.

Step 4: Display your Halloween mini buckets and watch them glow.

Note: The LED votive lights say they last for 120 hours each, so leaving them on all the time will cause them to burn out quicker.
