On Wednesday, June 20, 2018, Instagram announced a new in-app experience large enough to compete with YouTube and Snapchat and we couldn’t be more excited about it!  While we are a fan of all social media, Instagram is by far, our favorite!  IGTV is yet another brilliant way to give creators like me, a place where we can express ourselves through different types of media and helps us to reach a larger audience without having to bounce back and forth through many different platforms. Instagram never ceases to amaze me. Bravo!

Here’s a little bit more about IGTV, from Kevin Systrom, Co-Founder & CEO:

IGTV, a new app for watching long-form, vertical video from your favorite Instagram creators. While there’s a stand-alone IGTV app, you’ll also be able to watch from within the Instagram app so the entire community of one billion can use it from the very start.

IGTV is different in a few ways. First, it’s built for how you actually use your phone, so videos are full screen and vertical. Also, unlike on Instagram, videos aren’t limited to one minute. Instead, each video can be up to an hour long.

We’ve made it simple, too. Just like turning on the TV, IGTV starts playing as soon as you open the app. You don’t have to search to start watching content from people you already follow on Instagram and others you might like based on your interests. You can swipe up to discover more — switch between “For You,” “Following,” “Popular” and “Continue Watching.” You can also like, comment and send videos to friends in Direct.

Also like TV, IGTV has channels. But, in IGTV, the creators are the channels. When you follow a creator on Instagram, their IGTV channel will show up for you to watch. Anyone can be a creator — you can upload your own IGTV videos in the app or on the web to start your own channel.

Instagram has always been a place to connect with the people who inspire, educate and entertain you every day. With your help, IGTV begins a new chapter of video on Instagram. We hope it brings you closer to the people and things you love.

IGTV will be rolling out globally over the next few weeks on Android and iOS. You can learn more by visiting the Instagram Help Center.

Hello There!

Hi! I’m Heather, Mom of 3, professional snack opener, the only person who knows where everything is in my house and part-time magician (I can turn a bunch of candy into a gift basket and everyone thinks it’s amazing). I share a mix of parenting moments, easy recipes, crafts, and DIY home decor projects.

Around here, we love turning ordinary stuff into extraordinary gifts, from candy box baskets and birthday punch boards to homemade advent calendars and other crafty chaos that somehow always works out.

Welcome to The Super Mom Life — where the projects are fun, the coffee is strong, and the laughter is pretty much required for survival. Don't forget to follow us on social media!

  • I never heard about this before. it is good to hear that they are advancing the video capabilities and capacities

  • I’m already loving it – I’ve been watching some content from those I follow this morning and I think it is a great concept.

  • I didn’t even know about this! Amazing. I’ve been thinking about starting to do more videos. I would be much more confident on a platform I’m already familiar with.

  • I just downloaded the App today and will be setting it up and playing with it soon! I am excited to see how it ends up competing with YouTube and how it can work along side it to compliment it as well.
