On Wednesday, June 20, 2018, Instagram announced a new in-app experience large enough to compete with YouTube and Snapchat and we couldn’t be more excited about it! While we are a fan of all social media, Instagram is by far, our favorite! IGTV is yet another brilliant way to give creators like me, a place where we can express ourselves through different types of media and helps us to reach a larger audience without having to bounce back and forth through many different platforms. Instagram never ceases to amaze me. Bravo!
Here’s a little bit more about IGTV, from Kevin Systrom, Co-Founder & CEO:
IGTV, a new app for watching long-form, vertical video from your favorite Instagram creators. While there’s a stand-alone IGTV app, you’ll also be able to watch from within the Instagram app so the entire community of one billion can use it from the very start.
IGTV is different in a few ways. First, it’s built for how you actually use your phone, so videos are full screen and vertical. Also, unlike on Instagram, videos aren’t limited to one minute. Instead, each video can be up to an hour long.
We’ve made it simple, too. Just like turning on the TV, IGTV starts playing as soon as you open the app. You don’t have to search to start watching content from people you already follow on Instagram and others you might like based on your interests. You can swipe up to discover more — switch between “For You,” “Following,” “Popular” and “Continue Watching.” You can also like, comment and send videos to friends in Direct.
Also like TV, IGTV has channels. But, in IGTV, the creators are the channels. When you follow a creator on Instagram, their IGTV channel will show up for you to watch. Anyone can be a creator — you can upload your own IGTV videos in the app or on the web to start your own channel.

This is huge stuff from IG. I can see this is going to be a real competitor to YouTube. As ever so easy to do live streaming or videos on your phone, I can see there will be so many people moving away from YouTube to here.
There is so much out there, it’s too much to keep up with and monitor. How much social media does one need? I focus on just a couple and make the most of those.
Slow down technology! I just got the hang of Facebook ? but really, this is awesome and is going to do wonders for marketing!
Oh, wow, that will be a huge new development for sure. I’ve done vids before, but this new option will definitely up the ante!
Instagram TV?! I’m honestly surprised I haven’t heard of this, as a millennial I am really out of touch with social media and technology. It definitely sounds interesting.
I am even so excited about IGTV and it is indeed a good option for content creators of Instagram, because now they don’t have to look for other platforms for posting lengthy videos
