This year, back to school is looking a little bit different. Whether you are sending your kids to school, helping them with virtual learning, or you are homeschooling them, it’s time to start getting together all of the supplies they need to have a successful year. Our girls will start out with virtual learning and I know they are sad that they won’t be able to see their friends and teachers or walk the halls for a while, so I wanted to do something special for them. So, last weekend, I surprised them and personalized their back to school supplies with my Cricut Joy.
You may remember that in March, when the girls started distance learning, I personalized school supplies for them. They loved them so much, I knew I had to do it again.
I love using my Cricut Joy for projects like this. It’s the most compact of the Cricut machines and is literally my DIY best friend. This smart little cutting and writing machine is ridiculously easy to set up and use, so you’ll find endless excuses to personalize, organize, and customize every single day. Cut custom vinyl decals, make labels for your kitchen or office, bust out a custom card or a birthday banner. It’s also compatible with Cricut Smart Materials™, for super-easy, super-long cuts without a cutting mat. Just load & go! With plenty of projects that take just 15 minutes, Cricut Joy makes it possible to make something unique for you – or anyone – at a moment’s notice.
If you’ve been wanting a Cricut machine, now is a great time to get one! You and your kids will have the best time personalizing all of their back to school supplies. And to make it easier, I’ve created a list of everything you’ll need to personalize your back to school supplies with Cricut.
What You’ll Need to Personalize Your Back to School Supplies:
Back to School Supplies, Obviously
You can personalize just about anything including lunchboxes, water bottles, clothing, etc. We chose to personalize binders, folders, pencil pouches and school supply caddies. By the way, those school supply caddies are only $1.99, but personalizing them with Cricut makes them look like you bought them in one of those specialty stores!
A Cricut Machine
Choose from starter tool kit. I recommend checking out each machine and see which one works best for your needs. The Joy is a great starter machine and if you choose to get a bigger Cricut machine in the future, the Joy makes a great companion!
Cricut Materials
Once you have your machine, you’ll need the materials. I highly recommend the Cricut materials as they are made for their machines. I started off using iron-on (they have permanent and removable). You’ll also want transfer paper. This helps to transfer your design to your school supply easily. This was the first time I used the iron-on, for the pencil pouches. It was incredibly easy! You just create your design, mirror it and iron it on. You can also choose to use infusible ink. Unlike an iron-on transfer or vinyl application, where artwork is attached on top of a compatible material using adhesive, an Infusible Ink heat transfer becomes one with the material itself.
EasyPress or EasyPress Mini
If you choose to use the iron-on or infusible ink, you might want to consider getting either an EasyPress or an EasyPress Mini. I have the Cricut EasyPress 2 which makes the process so much easier. Combining the speed of a heat press and the convenience of an iron, Cricut EasyPress 2 gives you fast, effortless results that really last, even after repeated washes. I love that Cricut provides a heat guide so you know exactly what temperature and how much time you’ll need for your project.
Cricut Accessories
Lastly, you’ll need some accessories. The ones I used for these projects were scissors (to cut your materials), a weeder and a scraper. Cricut sells a starter tool kit which has everything except the scissors. Now through 8/18, you can save 30% on select machine tools.
If you’ve been wanting to get a Cricut machine, now is a great time! Now through 8/31/20, Cricut is offering free shipping when you spend $99 or more with code AUGSHIP. You can also get a Cricut Joy for as little as $179, now through 8/18. So grab your machine, your supplies and everything you’ll need to personalize your back to school supplies.

It’s so cool to have Cricut, I used it for my journal and mugs.
Yeah, that was so easy, and Cricut is so fun to use!
That is a great idea for school supplies. It makes the items look so cool.
This is a fantastic idea! I would have done this when my son was a kid. I still might do something similar with my items for when I travel.
These are great ideas. I like the idea of making it easy to keep track of their stuff while making it look cool.
