While there isn’t much of my childhood that I really remember anymore, there is one specific thing that I’ll never forget… The soothing smell of Vicks VapoRub. When I was congested or had a cough, my Nana would always go into her medicine cabinet and grab the VapoRub. Once she rubbed it on my chest and neck, I instantly felt comforted and was able to go to sleep. The smell still brings me back, all these years later.
My Nana and Papa’s house was a huge part of my childhood. I remember every inch of that house. From the yellow wallpapered kitchen to the green 70’s style chairs in the living room. The fruit trees that lined the sides and back of the home and the little bedroom where I would lay on the floor and make shadow puppets on the wall. There was something about that house that always made me feel safe, comfortable and so loved. Although, I think anywhere my Grandparents were, was my comfort zone. My Grandparents were amazing people and I owe so much of my drive and personality to the both of them. While I miss them enormously, I continue to share their methods with my own kids.
As a Mother of three, when my girls are congested, I have the job of bringing that same relief to my daughters when they’re feeling under the weather. They seem to bring home some sort of cough on a regular basis. Aren’t school germs awesome? And it’s always the kind of cough that lingers and acts up at night. When they are kept awake, so are we. Lucky for us, VapoRub’s medicated vapors last up to 8 hours to help parents and children get cough relief so they can get rest.
When my girls are feeling under the weather, they know what to do. They grab the VapoRub from their medicine cabinet. I love watching their faces as they inhale the medicated vapors and get ready for bed. I must have told them a million times that it was my Nana’s favorite. Part of me thinks that they love it that much more, because it’s a part of her that they can still connect to. And while she’s no longer with us, her traditions can still live on through us.
While we can’t rely on much, I know that we can rely on Vicks. The Vicks® legacy is about more than just cold and flu medicine. It’s about giving families the opportunity to continue life—even on sick days—for more than 100 years. I love that Vicks® VapoRub™ is great for ages two and up. It’s topical cough medicine with medicated vapors starts working quickly for adults as well to relieve cough symptoms. VapoRub is the #1 pediatrician recommended cough rub.

Oh my gosh! Vicks brings back a lot of childhood memories for me too. I can vividly remember my mom coming in my room in the middle of the night and rubbing it on my chest. I used it all of my kids, too.
Vaporub is soooo handy. I even use it as an adult when I get sick-it always helped when momma used it.
Hands up I love Vicks I have some in the draw in my bedroom and it always comes out when someone feels ill it really does help with breathing!
Vicks is definitely a part of my childhood memories. Whenever I was sick, I remember my mom getting out the vick rub and putting it on my chest. The minty smell always makes me smile as I knew I would be able to sleep after she put it on!
How wonderful that is to have such fond memories with your grand-parents! Vick’s has been a big staple in my family’s life for many years. A friendly tip (unless you’ve heard of this before): Rub Vick’s on your feet and wear socks before climbing into bed. It works wonders!
I LOVE Vicks Vapor Rub! I know that sounds silly but Vicks has been used for generations in my family! It reminds me of HOME in some strange way! Home being my grandmother’s where I grew up. Vicks WORKS in the way that is should but it is also just so soothing when you feel horrible. We all want that right?!
The smell of Vick’s brings such great memories for me. I remember how nice it felt to be tucked in and doted over by my mom when I was feeling bad.
