These are Not Your Grandma’s Shoes

My Nana’s bedroom was the 2nd door on the right in a hallway that resembled a bowling alley.  It was one of the smaller rooms and was just large enough to hold a twin sized bed, 2 dressers, a nightstand and a chair, where she sat every morning putting on and taking off her shoes.  On the bottom of her closet, she lined up her shoes in one neat row.  There were at least four pairs that I remember. 3 of those shoes were SAS Shoes.  Same style, in three different colors… black, white and tan. She loved those shoes. They provided her comfort. They made her feel safe, especially in her older years. They were her daily companions.  She never left her home without them on.

My Nana Alice was known for her beauty queen looks and her fashion.  She had a sense of humor that could keep you in stitches.  She was honest to her core and always said what was on her mind.  She was and will always be, my role model.  And now that she’s gone, I’m doing my best to walk in her shoes.

When I received an email from SAS Shoes, asking if I would collaborate with them, I couldn’t help but smile. I immediately recognized the name. More than anything, I wished that I could call my Nana and tell her. She would have been so excited. When I checked out their current styles, I was pleasantly surprised. I guess I had always thought of her SAS shoes as the only style that they made. I had no idea that they offered such cute, fashionable options.

When I slipped that first pair of sandals onto my feet, I understood why my Nana loved them so much.  It was like walking on air.  So many of us tend to buy shoes just because they look pretty.  They can give us blisters and cause our feet to be sore for days and we will make that sacrifice to look cute just for a few hours.  With SAS Shoes, you don’t have to sacrifice your feet. You can look cute and be comfortable.  They are the type of shoes you enjoy wearing, because you can walk miles in them without having to reach for a bandage.

There are so many styles and so many colors.  It was so hard for me to choose just one.  I quickly realized that I had been missing out on a brand that was a part of my life since I was a kid.  But now, I’ll never look back because SAS Shoes are not your Grandma’s shoes.  They are the brand my Grandma wore because she believed in them and because they were worth her loyalty.

Now, it’s my turn.  With three girls, I need to teach them everything my Nana taught me, including all about good shoes and the importance of comfort.  It will become a family brand, one my kids will grow up to love as well.  Every time they step into their SAS Shoes, they will think of our Nana and they will smile.   She may be gone, but her legacy and values will live on as we all walk a mile, in her shoes.

Look at me Nana, I’m making you proud. I’m living my best life.  And although I miss you more than words could ever explain, you are right here with me, in my heart and in my soles.
