Our family loves craft time, especially when we can add some sort of educational element to it. We each had the best time making a Scrabble tile coaster this past week and I’m super excited to share this fun craft, in honor of National Scrabble Day!
What I love most about this craft idea is that your kids can come up with what they want their coaster to say. They will find each of the letters and then spell each word out. Any Scrabble tiles that are leftover can also be used for spelling exercises and games!
Plus, the final result will help keep your tables free of drink rings! And the kids will be so proud that they are using a coaster that they handmade. It’s a win-win for everyone involved!
Another great part about this Scrabble tile coaster craft idea is that you only need two supplies!
Supplies You’ll Need
- Scrabble Tiles
- Wood Glue
You have a couple of options for the Scrabble tiles. If you have an old Scrabble game that you don’t use anymore, or if you can find an old Scrabble game at a thrift store, you can use those. Otherwise, I found a box of 500pcs of Scrabble Tiles on Amazon that works perfectly.
For the glue, I personally love Gorilla wood glue, but you can use any wood glue. I haven’t tried it personally, but you might be able to use hot glue as well if you don’t have any wood glue available.
Scrabble Tile Coasters Step-by-Step
- Lay the tiles in the order you’d like them to be on the coaster. Make sure it’s a square and you use blank tiles for spaces.
- Put a thin line of wood glue on the right side of the first letter.
- Attach the first two letters to each other. Make sure everything is lined up straight.
- Continue gluing the Scrabble tiles together until the top line of your coaster is finished.
- Place a thin line of wood glue on the bottom of the first line of letters.
- Continue gluing the Scrabble tiles together until the coaster is finished.
- Allow the coaster to dry completely and wipe or scrape away any excess wood glue.
We had the most fun trying to find fun sayings with words that have five or fewer letters. Falynn couldn’t wait to make one for herself and chose to write “Fals Cup Goes Here”.
The girls even made me a Scrabble tile coaster that says “The Super Mom Life”. I’ve used it every night at dinner and it’s officially my favorite!
Once you’ve made a few for yourself, you may even consider making some for gift ideas. I would recommend 5-6 for a gift. Just stack them up and tie a cute little bow around them. These Scrabble tile coasters make a beautiful handmade gift idea.
If you make these DIY Scrabble Tile Coasters, we’d love to hear your thoughts. If you post them on social media, we’d love it for you to tag @thesupermomlife.
