When she was only nine, our oldest daughter was told that she would definitely need braces. Her teeth were facing out, instead of down. She was at risk of her teeth being knocked out if she played too roughly. I just couldn’t take that chance. I wanted her to feel confident and not have to worry about her teeth. So, we took her to an Orthodontist and phase one began. She wore braces for about a year and we saw a drastic change in her smile when they were removed.
Unfortunately, due to financial issues and our lack of health insurance, we were unable to start phase 2. Over time, I noticed that her teeth started to shift back. While they aren’t as bad as they originally were, they are definitely moving in the wrong direction. I couldn’t bare to watch her go through middle and high school, when kids are at their meanest, without doing something about her smile. She deserved to be able to finish her journey, regardless of our financial situation.
Earlier this month, I reached out to SmileDirectClub, who my husband has been working with for over 6 months. I explained the situation with my daughter and they were kind enough to agree to help her with her journey to a perfect smile.
SmileDirectClub gives you the choice between visiting a SmileShop for a 3D scan or doing the at-home SmileDirectClub impression kit. We opted for the kit and it arrived just days later. Lucia couldn’t wait to get her impressions made. SmileDirectClub really makes the process so simple. There are easy-to-follow instructions and the kit comes with everything you need.
Since Dad had already been through the process, he was able to supervise to make sure Lucia did everything she needed to do, the correct way, to get the perfect impressions.
I may have had too much fun capturing the experience. I especially loved this shot, where she put the smile stretcher on, upside down. But once she got the giggles out, getting her impressions was so easy. Just a few minutes, twice on the top and twice on the bottom and she was all done. The impressions went back into the box and we shipped it back where we’ll wait for her aligners to arrive.
What she’s most excited about is that her aligners are clear. No more metal braces. She knows from watching her Dad’s journey that they are barely noticeable when he talks. She knows that before she enters high school, her SmileDirectClub treatment should be over and she can walk into those halls with a confident, beautiful, straight smile.
SmileDirectClub has already put a huge smile on her face and I can’t wait to watch it transform over the next year.

How cool! My daughter is 11 and will need braces too. She’d love to try something like this. I’ll have to look into it.
Wow! I didn’t know about this service. I’m definitely going to have to check it out. Love that the aligners are clear so it doesn’t show when you smile.
This is wonderful! I’m so glad you found Smile Direct Club for your daughter.
Good luck to her!! My son wore braces and he was so proud when they came off. It really does make a difference in a persons life.
I love that this alternative is offered. My son just had his braces removed. It’s such a great investment for parents.
I will definitely have to look into this for my kiddos. It is a great way to afford what is necessary! I know how expensive braces can be so something like this as an alternative is a wonderful thing.
This is so cool – I’ve never heard of it before. My kids had braces when they were younger, but I’ve noticed that their teeth have shifted a little because they didn’t wear their retainers like they should have. I’m looking forward to following your daughter’s journey. She has such a pretty smile!
