What is the first thing you do when you are going to take pictures? Before you get your little one dressed, before you style them, before you check the weather, before you decide where you are going to go, before you do anything, there may be one thing you aren’t doing that could mean the difference between the shop reposting your images or not!
Can you guess it? The absolute first thing I do before anything is…. check out the shops feed! If I’m shooting multiple shops items, I’m checking all of the shop feeds. Why?! I need to see what type of pictures they post. Do they prefer an urban feel? Do they prefer a white background? Or do you see lots of trees? Are they a fan of a vintage look? Do they like close ups over full body shots or both?! Do they have a lot of color on their feed or do they prefer monochrome shots? If you aren’t studying that feed before you go out, you are missing what may be the most important step!
Every shop has their preferences. Whether you are a rep or just a customer who is trying to catch that shop owner’s eye, you want to make sure that your pictures fit with their feed aesthetic. It’s probably the most important thing you can do. ESPECIALLY if you want them to be able to repost your photos. If you are shooting multiple shop items, make sure that those shops have a similar look as well. Never pair a shop that prefers urban styled photos with a shop that prefers a vintage forest look. First time working with a shop and you can’t tell just by looking at their feed? Don’t be afraid to DM them and ask! Give the shops what they’re looking for! It will get you noticed. It will save you from having to reshoot. And most of all, the shops will LOVE you for caring enough to do your homework.

Girl yes! I received a collab tee today from a shop that I’m not 100% familiar with so the first thing I did was go to their page and their website and see what kinds of photos they choose to showcase their items. 2 mins of research can make all the difference and sets you apart from others!

So true! I always look at my shops’ feeds, and sometimes gain inspiration for posting, locations, or accessories that I didn’t think of before. If I’m going to take photos for a shop. I make sure to give them what they want!
