Surprise Chick in Egg Kid’s Craft

I shared this picture on Monday on Instagram and realized I had never shared the actual tutorial for this cute and easy craft for your kids this Spring! All you need is a few supplies!  I’m excited to reveal our “Surprise Chick In Egg” Easter or Spring craft idea!

Supplies You’ll Need:

Foam Sheets (we chose glitter)
Construction Paper
Clothespins
Small Googly Eyes
Orange Marker
Scissors
Hot Glue or Adhesive Squares

Surprise Chick in Egg Craft Directions:

First, you’ll want to choose what color egg you want to make. Cut out a small rectangle and then cut an oval (egg shape) out of that rectangle.

Next, you’ll want to cut that oval shape in half and then cut zig zags on each piece (on the larger side) so that it looks like a cracked egg. Once you have the two pieces, you’ll want to attach them to the clothespin. The easiest way we found to do this, is to open the clothespin a bit and use either hot glue or adhesive squares (I had to cut mine really small so they didn’t show).

Now it’s time to work on your chick. Take yellow construction paper (you can also use card stock or any thicker paper) and cut a small square. After making sure it shows when you open up the egg, cut it so that it’s rounded on the top. Add two tiny googly eyes and draw on an upside down triangle with your orange marker, right underneath. This is your chick’s beak.

Now we need to attach the chick to the clothespin. Again, you can use either hot glue or adhesive squares (I had to cut mine really small so they didn’t show). This will go on the front, bottom of the chick. Turn the clothespin with the glitter egg upside down so that the egg is facing your table (like the picture above). The chick will be attached on the bottom part of the clothespin.

When you turn it over and squeeze the clothespin, surprise! Your chick should pop out. You can make these in a variety of colors, use non-glitter, change the color of the chick. There are so many possibilities. You can even think outside the box and make a bunny instead of a chick. A bunny in an egg? Sure! Why not!

My girls loved making these and then putting on a little puppet show. If you use the adhesive squares and childproof scissors, this is totally safe for the kids to do on their own. Of course, if you need to use hot glue or sharper scissors, or your kids are younger, adult supervision is suggested.
