What do you do when you live in Florida and your kids have always wanted to have a snow ball fight? You make your own snow! While it’s not icy or even cold, it is an easy and fun craft for kids that live in warmer climate areas. With just 2 main ingredients, you can make a big batch of snow for less than $5!
When I told my girls that we would be making snow, they were ecstatic. Like most kids, they love to make slime, so this was along the same lines for them. It’s a fun and inexpensive experiment that they will love.
How to Make DIY Snow
- 1lb box baking soda
- Approx 1/2 container shaving cream
Add both ingredients to a bowl and mix together with your hands until easily formed into a snowball.
Once you’ve created your snow, it’s time to have a little fun. You can build a snowman or have a snow fight. My kids are planning on making a much bigger batch next time so that they can make snow angels in our backyard.
Our Suggestions
While this is a bit messy, you can make things easier on yourself by putting a large sheet or towel down on the floor. If you choose to have a snow fight, like my girls did, do it in your front or back yard, where it can easily be washed away. Make sure that they don’t aim for the face as I wouldn’t want to get any of it in their eyes. Also, have your kids wash their hands right after they are done and make sure they don’t put any in their mouth. I know, common sense, but I wouldn’t be a protective Mama if I didn’t share concerns (especially for the little ones).

Have you ever tried to make snow? If not, what is your favorite kids craft? We’d love to hear about it. Comment below and let us know!

This is such a clever idea! I live in Australia and have never seen snow. What fun this would be 🙂
This is such a fun project. I bet my kids would have a blast making a big batch of this snow for play time!!
We live in California, so we don’t get a lot of snow either. Like your girls, my girls would find the thought of playing with snow super exciting. This could not be easier to make.
I haven’t even realised that one can do DIY snow. Can’t wait to share this idea with my students … they will have real fun! 🙂
Haha! This is so fun!! We will definitely try this at home!!
I love DIY but DIY snow is something I had never heard of before! What a great idea though!
Oh wow! This is a genius idea, why wait for the snow when you can make your own. It will take a lot of shaving cream. Thanks for sharing.

Well, we could wait forever and still never get it, so we took matters into our own hands 😉
