Life gets hectic. Sometimes it feels like we don’t have enough time in the day to get everything done so we may choose to put our self-care aside to take care of other things like our kids or work. And while we may put other people’s needs ahead of our own, there is one thing we can’t neglect… our teeth. We are excited to partner with the American Dental Association to share our daily routine as well as some recommendations when it comes to your oral care. It’s time to get mouth healthy.
Setting a routine helps me to stay consistent when it comes to self-care and staying healthy. Just like we set a time for breakfast, lunch and dinner, we should also set a time for self-care. As role models for our kids, we need to make sure that we are doing everything we ask them to do. If they see that we are doing something daily, they will do it and it will become a natural routine.
When we wake up in the morning, we brush our teeth, drink a glass of water and wash our face. I make sure to use a facial lotion with SPF, to protect my skin from the harsh Florida sun. While I wait for my daughter at the bus stop, I have a few minutes to floss. Spending those few minutes wisely makes a huge difference.
During the late afternoon, we walk around the neighborhood to get our daily steps in, shower and prepare and eat a healthy dinner. Just before bed, we brush our teeth again, use our antiseptic mouth rinse, wash up, read a bit and go to sleep. Knowing that we have taken care of our body, mind and teeth helps us to rest easier. Plus, good oral health habits lead to better visits to our family dentist.
ADA Recommendations.
Do you ever wonder if you’re doing everything you can to make sure your teeth are getting the proper care? The ADA has some recommendations:
- Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
- Clean between your teeth daily
- Eat a healthy diet that limits sugary beverages and snacks
- See your dentist regularly for prevention and treat of oral disease
- Drink fluoridated water
- Don’t use tobacco of any kind
- Avoid oral piercings
One of the most important things to us is to make sure we choose dental products with the ADA Seal of Acceptance. This Seal lets us know that they are safe for us and for our family. So, all our products, even the gum we chew, have this important Seal.

Oral hygiene is very important, I always encourage persons to take off their teeth. Seeing this article shows that I’m not alone in this. I pay particular attention to my products because I wear braces.
Seems like the simple things are the most important and easily neglected. I learned my lesson when it comes to oral hygiene, the hard way. I stay on top of my game now!
Oral hygiene is critically important. It not only affects the health of our mouths but our appearances as well. The practices you outlined are invaluable to oral health. I try to brush my teeth twice a day, I use floss and i visit the dentist twice a year. I with need to put limits sugary beverages and snacks however.
The oral hygiene is probably the most important one! It is sad to see people who do not maintain theirs properly, when actually it requires so less effort. Thank you for sharing this post with us!
For me, oral protection and care are extremely important.
Thank you for the reminder. I need to do better at keeping a daily routine.
Setting a routine is indeed very important! That was the only way I could get my toddler to follow suit! Still have to work my way up to flossing more frequently though!
