When we downsized late last year, I wasn’t sure how we would fit all of our belongings into 1/3 of the space. Our new rental home is definitely small, but we’ve gotten pretty crafty with our organization. We went from three large bathrooms to two small ones and, until we were moving, we didn’t realize just how much we accumulated in the bathrooms alone. All of the medicine, first aid, makeup and skincare just wouldn’t fit in our cabinet. Our counter started to look like a disaster. So, after watching that popular organization guru, I took matters into my own hands, found a bamboo box, and organized our downstairs bathroom. It was both therapeutic and fun.

Steps to Organizing Your Bathroom Essentials

  1. Lay out everything on a table.
  2. Get rid of any products that have expired.
  3. Make a list of everything you need (ex: Tylenol, Children’s Motrin, Band-Aids, etc.).
  4. Find a box that can be used to hold your most important essentials.
  5. Neatly organize everything and place the box in a safe place in your bathroom.

Some of the Essential Products You Should Stock Up On

1. TYLENOL®Rapid Release Gels – My go-to for minor aches and pains and to reduce a fever.
2. Children’s Motrin® – Essential for when the kids have a high fever, nothing works faster or lasts longer.
3. AVEENO®SKIN RELIEF 24HR MOISTURIZING LOTION – I love this because it’s fast absorbing and starts to work immediately to nourish and restore essential moisture, so your skin feels softer and healthier.
4. BAND-AID® ADHESIVE BANDAGES – If you have kids, only the best bandages will do. Trust me on this one.
5. Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes– These ultra soft makeup remover wipes effectively dissolve 99.3% of your most stubborn makeup which can be essential after a long day or night out.
6. PEPCID AC® – When it does hit, we reach for this; it works fast and lasts to prevent and relieve occasional heartburn.

  10. This is something my bathroom needs tons of help with. Organization is so very key to a smooth running house.

  11. These are some great tips and great things to keep handy! You never know when something will need to be found in a hurry!

  12. Wonderful tips, I like this I need to do it for my self, remove all the medicines which I don’t use and keep the one I use most.

  13. I use the same concept with organizing my drawers and cabinets, as well! It not only cleans up a space, it makes things easier to find, as well!

  14. I really like your ideas on organizing the bathroom. I hope many people can learn from this. Thanks.

  15. What a nice way to organize it! I also love the fact that you use quality products like Band Aid. So cool!

  16. You can never have too few bandaids. I couldn’t agree more. Very helpful and usful post esp for people who only start living on their own

  17. I feel like bandaids are an obvious thing that should be essential that a lot of people surprisingly don’t have. I’m including myself so thanks for the reminder!

  18. What a great idea! I love that wooden box you use to organize everything too. I love it when the inside of my drawers and cabinets look good on the inside too!

  19. I love putting all my bathroom essentials such as makeup, hairbrushes/combs in to their each individual box. I just organized my medicine cabinet the same way and I love it! Great tips!

  20. I love being organized in every corner of our house. It makes me more easier to manage everything.

  21. A bathroom as the name suggests is no different from any other room. And hence some thoughts are required about how to make it self sufficient at all times. Great tips.

  22. Great tips on organizing the bathroom. I used a tray instead of box though and I do need to check them again and see what needs to be thrown away.

  23. This is a great guide on how to organize your bathroom – I definitely need to go through mine and organize it better.

  24. haha this post reminded me of my weird obsession with bandaids when I was younger — I was known as the bandaid hoarder cause I would collect them or sport at least seven different ones on my body even thought I didn’t need them ?

My girls were exactly the same way!! My youngest finds any mark (even a marker) on her body and says she needs a bandaid.

  25. I love that bamboo cube organizer, it’s unique! I would love to separate my husband’s stuff to mine and I need one like that.

  26. Your post has inspired me to do something like so, I need to re-organize my bathroom. I love things are kept so neatly.

  27. Love this idea! We have a tiny place too and I feel like the cabinet under my sink has gotten out of control after this winter. Someone was always sick in the house so I have a big collection of medicine now. I think I’m going to look for a bamboo box tomorrow. I like the way it looks!

  28. It is so frustrating to need something and not be able to find it. We used to have a hard time finding band-aids in our house (maybe because of having 5 kids), but we finally got ourselves organized similarly to what you did. I’ll have to see what we need to restock and get in on the savings!

  29. Always had these on hand when the kids were younger especially and I still have a lot of these in the medicine cabinet. Great list of products..very important for every home to have.

  30. We go through a lot of bandaids since two of us like to cook, my granddaughter is a toddler, and my son likes to garden. We definitely have to keep our first aid and bathroom supplies organized so we know where to find them.

  43. I use baskets to help us organize. The front is labeled so if you need something for a headache you would pull out the basket labeled first aid.
