I’m always shocked when people tell me that they don’t cook salmon at home because they think it’s difficult or they don’t know how to cook it properly. Salmon is one of those dishes we make at least twice a month in our home. Not only is it good for you, but it’s a delicious alternative to chicken or beef. While we have several ways we make salmon, this particular recipe is one of our go-to recipes because it’s so easy and delicious.

I finally prepared a quick video on IG to show you just how easy it is to prepare salmon at home. With just a handful of ingredients, most of which you probably already have in your home, this entire dish takes less than 20 minutes with prep time (and 12-15 minutes of that is spent baking in the oven). Just prep and place your salmon in the oven while you work on your side dishes.

Salmon, lemon, olive oil, garlic, parsley, dijon mustard, and salt/pepper. That’s it. That’s all you need for this quick and delicious dish.

It goes great with rice or steamed veggies (asparagus and broccoli are our favorites). Often, we will serve it with both. It’s a delicious, quick, and healthy meal that my family loves!

The key to the perfect salmon dish is quality salmon. I tend to purchase frozen salmon because, believe it or not, most of the fresh salmon that you can buy in your local grocery store comes to them frozen. Frozen salmon is just as healthy and will keep in the freezer until you’re ready to thaw it and cook it yourself.

tips for this easy salmon recipe

After years and years of making this easy salmon recipe, I can tell you that brushing the flavorful ingredients on both the top and the bottom will make all the difference!

If I buy a large fillet in the store, I always ask them to remove the skin. If you buy sliced fillets instead, you can remove the skin yourself, at home. I lift one of the edges of the skin and pull – using the small knife to help me in places where the skin may get stuck.

steps to make easy oven-baked salmon

Step 1: Preheat oven to 450° and line the baking sheet with aluminum foil.

Step 2: Place your salmon fillets upside down on the lined baking sheet. If your fillets still have the skin on them, remove it.

Step 3: In a small bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients and stir to combine.

Step 4: Top each fillet with half of your mixture and use a basting brush to spread it all over the top of each salmon fillet.

Step 5: Flip each salmon fillet over and use a basting brush to spread the remaining mixture on the top of each fillet.

Step 6: Bake for 12-15 minutes (time will depend on the thickness of your salmon fillets). You want the salmon to be flaky and not overcooked.
