We are always reading in our house, so we are super excited to be a #PenguinKidsPartner and share a new book by @robbtopp, called Wink. ⁣
⁣
This hilarious and heart-wrenching story is about surviving middle-school with an unthinkable diagnosis, rare eye cancer. It’s a story of survival and finding the music, magic and laughter in life’s weirdness. ⁣
⁣
Iyla is about half way through it and can’t put it down. She loves it because it shows that no matter what your situation, you can make the best of it! I love the message it shares. I’m always telling the girls to embrace their “weird” because it’s what makes them unique. The world would be such a boring place if we were all the same. ⁣
⁣
If your middle-reader is looking for a new book, we highly recommend Wink from @PenguinKids. It’s available now! ⁣

“What if we capture the beauty of the whole world in ONE big, bold book? A book that will transport readers to countries across the globe, one bedtime story at a time?” AD: What if I told you that book exists? The Book of Cultures is a 120 page book featuring 30 illustrated stories with characters from different countries, alongside activity pages with puzzles and fun facts. It’s funny the things that I miss most. Often when the girls achieved something big, we would take them to this little ice cream shop by our home for a treat. But we can’t do that now. Our state is under a stay home order through at least May. And while we don’t NEED to go places, I miss the freedom to be able to do so. I miss not having to disinfect every single grocery item before we can put it away. I miss impromptu trips to Target. ⁣
⁣
But... we haven’t left the house in almost three weeks. Because, eventually we will be able to get back to normal and drive wherever we want and spend money on things we probably don’t need. And our sacrifice for a month or two, or four, is so that our brave health workers and essential employees are not put in any additional danger. And to me, that’s worth the tiny inconvenience of being asked not to leave the house. ⁣

#ad This is a time of uncertainty throughout the world. As a self-employed family, we are having to make important decisions, to make sure that we are saving and spending our money wisely.⁣

After spending this past week looking at our bills, we realized that our mobile bill is way too high. We need to be able to stay connected, but we don’t need to spend a fortune to do it. We just switched Super Dad over to @mintmobile. ⁣

Our family starts every new year making a list of things we want to do differently. On the 1st of every year, we tell each other what those goals are and try to hold each other accountable. This year, I thought it would be fun to write them down and share them with our readers and then look back at the end of 2019 to see how many of our goals were achieved, how many we are still working on and how many we gave up on and why. The only requirement I had was that we make goals that are realistic, so that we have a real shot of achieving them. Here are our family’s 2019 goals.

Mom’s 2019 Goals

  1. Live fearlessly and not let anxiety stop me from living.
  2. Grow as a person, recognize my faults and improve them.
  3. Challenge myself to grow professionally as a writer and photographer.
  4. Learn SEO.
  5. Make time to read for fun.
  6. Find our forever home (build or buy).
  7. Get healthy and stay healthy, both for myself and my family.
  8. Make new friends and invest time to grow the relationships that already exist.
  9. Travel a little farther out of my comfort zone.

  10. Get more rest at night.

6 Year Old Falynn’s 2019 Goals

Since this is our first year doing this, I’m excited to see if it’s worked for you. Comment below and let us know.

I find that many of my friends fail their New Year’s goals by burning out by having too many unrealistic goals and the frustration leads them to not creating any resolutions at all.
