When our oldest tried coffee for the first time, she fell in love with Starbucks iced white chocolate mocha. According to the Starbucks website, an iced white chocolate mocha contains Starbucks’ signature espresso, white chocolate sauce, milk, and ice. This supreme white chocolate delight is finished with sweetened whipped cream.
Since Starbucks isn’t incredibly close to our home, we started buying the ready-made version at Target. Unfortunately, they suddenly stopped carrying it, and my daughter has been missing it terribly ever since. So, I promised her I would figure out how to make a copycat version at home.
Last weekend we tested it out. She took one sip and said it tasted even better than she remembered. And when an almost 16-year-old says that about anything you’ve made, that’s a big deal.
If you prefer the iced peppermint white chocolate mocha, try our copycat recipe. It’s delicious.
Before I share our Starbucks iced white chocolate mocha, let me share a few tips about the ingredients.
You want to use a good espresso. That will make or break the flavor. To make things easier, and so that our daughter could make it on her own without waiting for Dad to brew some fresh espresso, we purchased the Starbucks Doubleshot espresso – they also have a light version. You can make 2-3 drinks from each can, so it’s less expensive than ordering an iced white chocolate mocha in Starbucks.
If you prefer to make your espresso, you can do that as well, though you will want it to be room temperature or chilled, so be sure to make it beforehand. If you have an espresso machine, that is probably the quickest and easiest way. You can also use a stovetop espresso maker. We tried both ways and found the espresso much darker and richer with the machine, but it will work with either!
Since the Starbucks Doubleshot espresso contains some sugar, you may need to add sugar to your drink if you decide to make your espresso.
While you can choose whichever milk you prefer, we prefer almond milk. It’s creamier, in my opinion. You can use sweetened or unsweetened, depending on how you like your iced white chocolate mocha. We used unsweetened, and my daughter didn’t need to add sugar.
The third and final ingredient is the white caramel sauce. They didn’t have any available at our grocery store or Target, so I ordered a bottle of DaVinci Gourmet White Chocolate Sauce from Amazon, which arrived the following day. You only need two tablespoons per cup, so if you don’t plan on making this Starbucks iced white chocolate mocha often, you might want to get a smaller container.
I recommend mixing the milk and the white chocolate sauce with a frother. We found that it mixes them much quicker and is a great kitchen tool, especially if you are a coffee fan.
I’ve tried to show you the steps in the photos above, to make it a bit easier to make your Starbucks iced white chocolate mocha.
Step 1: Combine milk and white chocolate sauce with a frother.
Step 2: Pour in espresso.
Step 3: Stir
Step 4: Fill the cup with ice
Step 5: Top with whipped cream (optional)
Step 6: Enjoy!
