I can’t remember when I had my first bite of German chocolate cake, but I can tell you that it was love at first bite. A couple of years ago, my sister-in-law brought one for dessert and I couldn’t get enough. That coconut, pecan, chocolate combo is absolute heaven.  So when it was time to come up with a new fudge flavor, I knew I had to make German chocolate cake fudge!

You may be wondering if it’s possible to get all of that yummy goodness into one bite-sized piece of German chocolate cake fudge. The answer is YES and I’m about to show you how to make it so you can see for yourself.

Let’s talk about the ingredients. You’ll want to use German sweet chocolate in addition to the chocolate chips you will be using. For the chocolate chips, you have a couple of options. If you like your German chocolate cake to be extra sweet, use milk chocolate chips or a mixture of milk chocolate chips and semi-chocolate chips.

We decided since the coconut, condensed milk and sugar are very sweet on their own, we went with semi-sweet chocolate chips. For our family, it was the perfect amount of sweet.

I purchased chopped pecans, but I found that the pieces were very large, so I wound up chopping them more with a knife. Again, you can adjust based on what you prefer.

I make fudge often. When I was making our cookies and cream fudge last month, I splurged and got myself a large pastry dough cutter.  For under $10, it came with 2 different size pastry dough cutters. The larger one is the perfect size to cut your fudge in one shot and it easily sliced through pecans and all!

The other thing I invested in recently were glass storage containers with lids. They were perfect for the fudge and the large round glass storage container with a lid worked beautifully for the German chocolate cake fudge topping.
