Growing up, I vividly remember Passover. The seders, the family, the boxes of candy that we would have to sell for school, and the lack of cake and cookies (which, to a child, is a huge deal). Fast forward many, many years, and it seems like gluten-free and flourless treats are more common than ever. Most recipes can be manipulated to make them kosher for Passover. We have kosher for Passover chocolate chip cookies this year, and I couldn’t be more excited to share!
I searched the internet for kosher for Passover chocolate chip cookies and somehow stumbled on Jamie Geller’s Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie Tower. WHAT?! It’s giant chocolate chip cookies layered with chocolate cream filling. YES, PLEASE! Since it seemed a little bit too big for us since we don’t have any company this year, I adapted Jamie’s recipe into smaller chocolate chip cookies.
The first time I tested it out, my family couldn’t stop eating them. Three dozen cookies were gone in a matter of hours. Using ground walnuts is genius, and since we love walnuts in our chocolate chip cookies, they resulted in the perfect tasting cookie. You won’t miss the flour at all!

Can I use any type of butter?
The thing about making any recipe that is Kosher for Passover is that you have to be sure that all of the ingredients you are using are also Kosher for Passover. Google says to use margarine, but I was able to find out that Breakstone’s butter is, in fact, Kosher for Passover! If you are unable to find it, you can also use margarine.
What is the easiest way to grind the walnuts?
I have found that putting them into a food processor and letting them run for 30 seconds does the trick. It brings back vivid memories of my Nana’s kitchen when I used to help her grind the walnuts for her Charoset. YUM!

Where can I find potato starch?
I found some Manischewitz potato starch in the International aisle, with the other Kosher items, in my local grocery store.
Is all milk chocolate Kosher for Passover?
There has been some debate about this. I read that Hershey’s milk chocolate chips are Kosher for Passover, so I stick to those. But please, do your research on all ingredients before you make them.
Can this dough be frozen?
Yes, it can be! If you want to make a larger batch and freeze some or all of the dough for later, you can do that. Just pull it out the day you want to make it, and if it’s too frozen to scoop, leave it on the counter for a bit.

I love that you added a little history about Jewish culture in this. Great way to educate people on why they make and eat certain things, especially around the holiday season. Thank you for sharing.
My family and I love chocolate chip cookies. I’m always up to trying out new chocolate chip recipes. Can’t wait to see how these taste. They sure look amazing.
This is a lovely recipe. Ground walnut is sure to give the walnut flavour in addition to adding to the texture of the cookies.
