We’ve officially been sheltering at home for four long months. We had so many plans to take a summer vacation with the kids, but we are staying put and keeping everyone safe until this pandemic has passed us by. In an effort to have some vacation-like fun at home, I wanted to make the girls a tropical, fruity drink that they can sip next to the pool on a hot Summer’s day. Since we shared our non-alcoholic margarita last year, it was only natural that this year, we would create a spin on my favorite, piña colada. We are so excited to share it with you! If you’re looking for a family friendly, non-alcoholic recipe for a piña colada that the whole family can enjoy, read on! It’s the yummiest non-alcoholic banana piña colada ever… at least according to my kids.

This non-alcoholic piña colada brings you the flavors of the Caribbean, in a frozen, sweet and tropical drink that the whole family can enjoy!

I love regular piña coladas. It was my go-to drink when I went to Mexico years ago. There’s something about the tropical flavors that transport me right back to that beach. But you may know that I don’t drink so when I want to enjoy a tropical drink, I have to come up with a non-alcoholic version. Which actually works out well because I can share it with my kids, who LOVE trying fun frozen drinks like this.

The drink itself only has 4 ingredients (including ice). You’ll need pineapple juice, not from concentrate. We use Dole and grab the 46oz can so we have some left over for another day. You’ll also need Cream of Coconut and a ripe banana. I tend to wait until the banana peels are brown, or turning brown. The riper they are, the sweeter and have a stronger banana flavor. It doesn’t matter if they’re mushy since you’ll be blending them up anyway, so go ahead and use up those bananas that have been sitting on your counter, that the kids refuse to eat. If you aren’t a fan of the banana flavor, you can absolutely leave it out for a more traditional non-alcoholic piña colada.

Bring the taste of the Caribbean to your home with this easy recipe. According to my kids, it's the yummiest non-alcoholic banana piña colada ever.

One thing I found is that the amount of ice you add will determine how hard your non-alcoholic piña colada is to pour. So just eye ball it. If the mixture seems too watery, add more ice. If the mixture seems too clumpy and hard to pour (you know, where you go to pour it and it all falls out all over the counter – and yes, that happened to us), then add a bit more pineapple juice in until it’s at the right pouring consistency. You want it to be able to be sipped through a straw. Hopefully that helps.

Garnishes are completely optional, but we love them! You can cut a fresh pineapple into little triangle wedges and then cut a slit on the bottom part. This slit is how it will fit onto the glass. My girls love maraschino cherries, so I usually add one or two on the top and drop a couple in the bottom of the drink. Make sure the one at the bottom doesn’t have a stem (to make it easier for the kids to eat it) once their drink is gone.

Another option, is to add some colorful drink umbrellas or fun paper straws. Anything that makes it festive and fun will make your non-alcoholic piña colada that much better.
