I love everything about Fall. I love the weather, the falling, changing leaves, and especially the flavors. It’s time for warm, comforting flavors like pumpkin spice latte. Of all the coffee shops I’ve tried, Starbucks has my favorite pumpkin spice latte. But what happens when they are out of stock, don’t have it available, or you have a budget to stick to? Lucky for you, I’m sharing my Starbucks pumpkin spice latte copycat recipe. Hooray!
The Starbucks website describes their pumpkin spice latte as signature espresso and steamed milk with the celebrated flavor combination of pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. Enjoy it topped with whipped cream and real pumpkin-pie spices.
As of today, it’s not yet available at our local Starbucks, so if you’ve been craving it, try our recipe. It’s surprisingly easy to make. Some say it’s even yummier than the original, but I’ll let you be the judge. Don’t forget to check out our Starbucks copycat recipes, including our very popular Starbucks Pink Drink copycat.
Ingredients for the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte Copycat
Before I share our Starbucks pumpkin spice latte copycat recipe, let me share a few tips about the ingredients.
Even though Starbucks uses espresso, you can use either espresso or a dark roast coffee for this copycat recipe. I find dark roast coffee easier; honestly, it doesn’t change the flavor much.
If you prefer to make your espresso, you can also do that. If you have an espresso machine, that is probably the quickest and easiest way. You can also use a stovetop espresso maker.
Pumpkin pureé will make your Starbucks pumpkin spice latte copycat much better, so don’t skip out on it. Make sure that you are buying pure pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling. They are two very different things.
You can warm the milk up in any small pot on the stove, but I recently bought this milk pot, and it was money well spent! It’s a perfect size. You can whisk the milk, but I highly recommend using a frother. We found that it gets the milk to foam much faster and is a great kitchen tool, especially if you are a coffee fan.
Tip: Make sure that your espresso/dark roast coffee is hot when you mix in the pumping pie spice, vanilla, and pumpkin pureé. This will help it to blend better.
How to Make it Dairy Free
If you don’t do dairy, it’s easy to make this Starbucks pumpkin spice latte copycat non-dairy. You’ll want to use any non-dairy milk. We love almond milk because it’s so creamy, but you can also use soy, coconut, or any other unsweetened option. Instead of the regular condensed milk, you’ll want to use sweetened condensed coconut milk or sweetened condensed oat milk. Finally, pick up some non-dairy whipped cream, and voila!
How to Make it Sugar-Free
If you don’t do sugar, it’s easy to make this Starbucks pumpkin spice latte copycat sugar-free. You’ll want to buy unsweetened condensed milk and if you use any non-dairy milk option, make sure that it is also unsweetened. Finally, pick up sugar-free whipped cream.
I’ve tried to show the steps in the photos above for you to make it a bit easier to make your Starbucks pumpkin spice latte copycat.
Step 1: Combine milk and condensed milk in a small pot and warm on the stove for 4 minutes on medium.
Step 2: Whisk or froth for one minute or until milk doubles in size.

Step 4: Add vanilla, pumpkin pureé, and pumpkin pie spice into the steaming hot espresso and mix until combined.
